Seasonal: 3D Archery Shoot

Attention all compound, recurve, and longbow enthusiasts and archers: Have you been yearning for a way to tune in your bow skills, but can’t find anything but the target behind your house? Please join Munnell Run Farm Foundation and Mercer County Conservation District for their  annual 3D Archery Shoots this summer at Munnell Run Farm.

 
Shoot Dates-
Friday, June 30th 5 PM to 9 PM
Saturday, July 1st 8 AM to 12:30 PM
Saturday, August 12th 8 AM to 12:30 PM
 
The cost is $10/person and $5/child (12 and under).
 
Munnell Run Farm is located one and a half miles west of the Mercer County Courthouse on Route 58 W; look for the Munnell Run Farm sign. (To find us using an address in a gps, use: 753 greenville road, mercer, pa 16137). This will be held RAIN OR SHINE.
 

The shoot will consist of a variety of activities from two different 3D target courses, to a small target range for warm up, to a Top Shot for those with a competitive thirst. We will also have a great door prize for you to put in for your chance to win!

 
Compounds and primitive bows welcome.  Unfortunately, we do not have the targets to withstand crossbows.

General: "Get Outside, Come Alive" Series: Buck Moon Kayak Paddle with DCNR State Parks

Come join the Mercer County Conservation District as they continue their series, “Get Outside, Come Alive”. This series is designed to highlight conservation and recreation throughout Mercer County and in the state of PA. This will be a monthly series with each program highlighting a new topic.  This month's program will highlight the beauty of Maurice K. Goddard State Park via a moonlight kayaking program.  

 
Topic:Buck Moon Moonlight Kayak
Date: Saturday, July 8th
Time: 8:45 PM - 10:30 PM
Location: Launch 3 at Maurice K. Goddard State Park
Note: There is no fee for this program.
(Minimum age of 14 required).   
Pre-register by July 5th.  We have a limited number of boats so please pre-register quickly. Call 724-662-2242.
 

Come join the conservation district as it welcomes guest speaker Chris Mosebach in a program that highlights our state park system as well as the beautiful Lake Wilhelm by kayak.  All equipment will be provided including: kayaks, paddles, and life vests.  Please bring a snack and drink for on the water.  All experience levels are welcome.  

 
Note: If we have lightning and thunder the program will be cancelled.  We will keep you up to date and contact you if that occurs. 
 
 
Seasonal: Summer Discovery "Wetland Wonders" Children's Program

Program: Wetland Wonders
Location: Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, Mercer, PA
Time: 18 AM- 11:30 AM
Ages: 5-7 years old
Fee: $5/ child
Pre-register by July 7th
 
Come join the Mercer County Conservation District educators in an interactive program about wetlands. We will explore the many creatures that call wetlands "home" from mammals such as the beaver down to trout and even little bugs. The kids will then have the opportunity to sample stream life and see how the little bugs mean a stream is healthy. We will end the program with a beaver lodge activity snack.  (Note: Be sure to wear old clothes and waterproof footwear.)

The Munnell Run Farm Quilt Guild is currently looking for individuals interested in learning the lost art of quilting.  No experience is necessary.  We meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month.  If interested please contact 724-662-2242. Meetings are held from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Munnell Run Farm "Pig Barn" located at 753 Greenville Road, Mercer, PA 16137.
 
Seasonal: Watershed Explorer's Adventure Camp
Tuesday, July 18, 2017 - Friday, July 21, 2017
Time: 9 AM to 3 PM
Dates: July 18th- 21st

·    Ages: 10-15 years old

·    Cost: $125

o    This includes: water testing materials, lab equipment, camp hand-outs, kayak rentals, pontoon boat rentals, safety and pfd rentals, camp graduation picnic supplies, commemorative t-shirt

 

·    Registration Deadline: Friday, June 30, 2017

o    Note: Registration is not considered complete until the payment has been received. Be sure to put on the check the program and student name.

Camp Highlights
 

v , Tuesday, July 18th (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) Watersheds 101, PBC’s of Water Testing

o      *Will be held on-site at Munnell Run Farm

o   *Students will learn the: basics of watersheds, watershed mapping, wetland 101, chemical water assessment, physical water assessment, and biological water assessment.

o       *Note: Bring a lunch

v Wednesday, July 19th (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM)River Ecology, Macroinvertebrate Assessments

o      *Will be held off-site in the northern section of the Shenango River Watershed

o        *Students will: sample two different locations within the Shenango River Watershed in the upper portion, do macroinvertebrate assessments, learn about regional natural and man-made structures and impacts on stream

o       *Note: Bring a lunch

v Thursday, July 20th  (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) River Ecology, Macroinvertebrate Assessments, Introduction to Fly Fishing

o       *Will be held off-site at the Locks in Sharpsville and at Neshannock Creek

o     *Students will: learn about the many  creatures that call the “lake” home, do macroinvertebrate assessments, learn about macros place in the food chain, learn about trout and the basics of fly fishing with help from Neshannock Chapter of Trout Unlimited

o      *Note: Bring a lunch

v Friday, July 21st (9 AM to 3:00 PM) Camp Graduation, Camp Review, Kayaking 101

*Will be held off-site at Maurice K. Goddard State Park
*Will emphasize past topics learned throughout camp and discuss any creatures and   wildlife seen along the way as well as water safety and outdoor living skills.
*Will learn about stream health and how it directly ties into lake health

o     *Will conclude with small presentation (developed by campers) on water quality, its importance, and how the different assessments relate to water quality, will discuss the places they sampled, and how they would assess the health of the Shenango River Watershed based on findings

*Note: Lunch will be provided that day

Come join Munnell Run Farm as we welcome our newest instructor to the guest artisan series, Brandon Cowie. With a degree in fine arts from Edinboro and a lifelong interest in the arts, Brandon has a passion for art and his classes are full of creativity and fun! His first class is a beginner’s guide to sparking your creative side through a patriotic mason jar project.

All materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.

Come join the Mercer County Conservation District educators in an interactive program about ecosystems and food chains. We will learn about the local ecosystems we have here on the farm and the different creatures that call them home. The concepts of food chains and how energy flows will be explored and brought to life through engaging activities. We will then make a snack inspired by food chains. (Note: Be sure to wear old clothes and waterproof footwear.)

Program: The Miracles of Butterflies

Ages: 5-7 years old

Pre-register by August 11th
 
Come join the Mercer County Conservation District educators in a program that highlights the marvelous miracles of butterflies.  We will explore the unique life cycle of a butterfly by designing a cool pasta craft.  We will then have the students help us search the fields for the famed Monarch caterpillars that they can take home to raise.  We will end the program with a pollination snack. Don't miss out.
