Seasonal: Children's Summer Discovery Series

A weekly summer programming series for children ages 6-10 years old providing hands-on, interactive learning in nature. Children get opportunities to engage with their local environment through many different learning styles. Different environmental topics will be highlighted each week, while also learning the basics to backyard gardening through managing and maintaining their very own heirloom garden.

Fee for series: $40 ($5/ session; except for July 30th and August 6th, if paid for individually it is $15/ child)

Seasonal: Youth Archery Camp
Tuesday, June 18, 2019 - Friday, June 21, 2019
Time: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Join the staff of the Mercer County Conservation District for its ninth annual youth archery camp. This 4 day camp is designed to teach children ages 9 to 14 the basics of handling and shooting archery equipment.  The fee for the program is $70.

~Note: Registration is not considered complete until the payment and form have been received. Be sure to put on the check the program and student name. Also include the registration form with the check.

• Note: All bow equipment will be provided. We ask that during competition, students use the equipment we have to make the competition equal across the board. The students may bring their own bows on Wednesday- Friday and the use of those bows may occur during the practice sessions at the discretion of the instructors.
 
Camp Highlights
~Tuesday, June 18th(9:00 AM to noon) Bow Basics/ Bow Safety
*The camp will begin with a history of archery and its significance through history. The students will then learn about the major components of the bow. They will also be introduced to the tools that are included in archery such as the release and arrow. The students will learn about the proper precautions and safety requirements to be followed when handling a bow.
 
~Wednesday, June 19th (9: 00 AM to noon) Bow Handling/ Shooting Practice
* The students will be provided with Munnell Run Farm’s bows and arrows. The basics of shooting will be discussed and shooting practice will begin. The students will learn about scoring paper vs 3D targets. An individual paper competition will end this segment of the camp.
* Participants will also learn about the role that archery plays into conservation. They will also learn about many of the different animals in the PA woods.
 
~Thursday, June 20th (9:00 AM to 1:00 PM) Western Reserve Visit
* Note: Transportation is provided on this day.
* The participants will spend some time reviewing how to shoot and getting practice in. A group paper animal competition will occur.
* Lunch will be provided for all participants and an awards assembly will follow at the conclusion of the camp. The district will provide the main dish as well as drinks, plates, and napkins, etc. We ask that all participants bring a side dish.
 
~ Friday, June 21st (10 AM to Noon) Gold-N-Grain Visit
* Note: Camp will start at the shop.
* Students will have the opportunity to go to an actual archery shop to see what they have to offer beginners. They will learn about the leagues, JOAD, etc that give them opportunities to link in. They will have opportunity to shoot an indoor paper competition.
 
 
 
 
General: Snapping and Chatting, Interactive Nature Hike

Come join the Mercer County Conservation District and Munnell Run Farm as we welcome Crawford County Conservation Districts’ Environmental Educator, Kathy Uglow, for this unique nature walk. We will use our cell phones to focus on nature instead of letting them distract us! We will take a leisurely nature walk and take photos of what we EACH find interesting. Let’s really look at the nature that surrounds us and “photo journal” our walk to remember the afternoon.

Seasonal: Watershed Explorer's Adventure Camp
Tuesday, July 16, 2019 - Wednesday, July 17, 2019
Time: 9 AM to 3 PM
Dates: July 16th and 17th

·    Ages: 9-14 years old

·    Cost: $70

o    This includes: camp t-shirt, camp supplies, equipment usage, camp picnic supplies, transportation

*Drop-off Location: Munnell Run Farm; Pick-Up: Launch at Maurice K. Goddard State Park

*Students will learn: ~basic forest ecology ~roles of birds in a lake ecosystem

~great blue heron showcase ~birding along the shore and hiking trails

~kayaking 101

Bring:

~book bag

~snacks

~2 bottles of water

~bug spray

~sunblock

~water shoes

~extra set of clothes

Wear:

~clothes for kayaking

*Note: Dinner will be provided on this date.

*Note: The kayaking program will begin at 6 PM. We will give you the Launch # to participate in the kayak portion and for camper pick-up.
